How to Use the Bookeye 5 Scanner

Introduction

The Bookeye 5 is a scanner that is available to Broome Library patrons and employees. This scanner can be used for either everyday scanning or for archival scans.

Basic information

Below are some basic guidelines to follow in maintaining the Bookeye 5 scanner.

  • Users should not have any food or drink near the scanner.

  • Cleaning the flat surface of the scanner should be done by using a damp cloth and lightly rubbing away any dust.

  • Use only non-amonia cleansers to clean lens. NEVER spray the cleanser directly onto the lens. Spray the cleanser on a microfiber cloth and lightly clean the lens.

  • Never place anything on top of the Bookeye. The lens is housed in the top portion of the scanner and can be damaged if anything is placed on top of it.

Using the Bookeye 5

  • Turn on the Bookeye 5 by switching on the power switch located in the back right hand side of the unit. Once the switch is on, press the power button on the right hand side of the unit. The button should turn blue.

  • When the Bookeye is on click on ScanWizard.

  • If you would like to see a live preview of your scan click on Live Preview on the lower right hand side of the unit.

  • On the left hand side of the screen choose a Job Mode that best fits your need.

General book/document scans

  • Tap on General Book 300dpi PDF option.

  • Place the book on the lower portion of the flat surface. It is important that the item be placed here because the laser needs to be able to detect the item in order to scan.

  • You can scan by tapping the Scan option on the screen, pressing the Scan button on either the right, left, or center of the scanner, or by using the foot pedal.

  • If you need to hold the book open while you are scanning, you can digitally remove your fingers from the scan by clicking on Size on the upper left hand side of the screen and then clicking on Finger Removal Mode.

  • Scan the necessary pages continuously.

  • Once you are ready to save tap the Transfer option on the upper right of the screen.

  • If you have a USB drive, insert it on the front of the unit.

  • Tap USB to save your scans.

  • Once your files are saved you can remove your USB drive and tap on Exit Job on the left of the screen.

Archival Scans

  • Before you touch the archival document/book make sure that you are wearing the appropriate archival gloves.

  • Tap on the Book 300dpi TIFF option.

  • Follow the same steps as stated above.

Document Scans

  • Follow the same steps as stated in the General Book option.

Finish

  • Once you are done using the scanner make sure to remove your USB drive and make sure that you tap on Exit Job. You may leave the scanner on as is. It will sleep after 10 minutes of not being used.

NEVER hard kill the scanner by using the off switch behind the unit.
