Open Access Publishing

This guide details several transformative agreements with scholarly publishers under which CI faculty may publish Open Access without paying APC charges.

What is a Transformative Agreement?

"Transformative agreements are those contracts negotiated between institutions (libraries, national and regional consortia) and publishers that transform the business model underlying scholarly journal publishing, moving from one based on toll access (subscription) to one in which publishers are remunerated a fair price for their open access publishing services." (Efficiency and Standards for Article Charges, ESAC)

Currently, CSU Channel Islands is a part of three transformative agreements that cover open access publication fees (known as APCs or article processing charges) for Channel Islands authors. Please see below for details of each. This page will be updated regularly to include new agreements and to remove those that have expired.
