Library Orientation Guide: Library Equipment

Requesting Laptops and Hotspots

The Broome Library is now accepting requests for laptops and hotspots for the Fall 2020 semester. We will not begin filling requests until August, but this will allow you to place your name on the request list. Requests will be filled in the order they are received.

Availability is very limited. Please be mindful that many students do not have access to a computer at home, so many will be relying on this service as the only way to acquire a computer for their coursework. Please also help us prioritize the hotspots for students with no home internet access.

We will continue to update this page, and the Library Equipment page, as available items have all been allocated.

Please see our video for instructions on how to request library equipment for Fall 2020.

How to Get Specialized Software

Library laptops do not have specialty software.

Information Technology Services (ITS) is providing access to specialty software through a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) that can be accessed from any computer through the internet. These virtual labs are available seven days a week between the hours of 6:00 AM to 11:59 PM and provide access to software applications such as SPSS, Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office applications. You can find information about how to access these labs in the ITS Knowledge Base here.

Just remember in a virtual environment you need to save the material you are working on to your home computer.
