Citation Style Guide

A introductory guide to citation styles and reference management tools.

What is the Chicago Style?

The Chicago Manual of Style is a commonly used citation style in business, history, and the fine arts. The style has two formats:

Notes and Bibliography: In-text citations are displayed as footnotes or endnotes, which links to a Bibliography.

Author-Date: In-text citations are displayed as parenthetical documentation (including a brief citation enclosed with parenthesis within the text), which links to a Reference List.

This page will provide a brief overview and resources for Chicago Style. Citation examples are listed in the tab to the left but are separated between the two formats mentioned above. For more in-depth information please consult the Chicago Manual of Style, Chicago Manual of Style Online, and the web resources listed below. Additionally, you may consult the Turabian style, which is a simplified version of Chicago Style for students. The main difference is that Turabian is shorter and contains fewer instructions.
